De-coupling membrane
G-Flex

G-FLEX is a waterproof and anti-fracture decoupling membrane, only 3 mm thick, composed of a polyethylene membrane and a geotextile sheet with air nodules. It is designed to improve the installation of ceramic tiles and natural stone, both indoors and outdoors, especially on critical substrates such as cracked surfaces, with movement or residual moisture.

Features that make G-Flex film different

GURU’s G-FLEX uncoupling sheet is formed by ring-shaped reliefs. The reverse side of the sheet is covered by a geotextile sheet that provides a perfect grip to the C2 tile adhesive cement while allowing water vapor to pass through the ducts of the rings, thus avoiding problems with humidity that may appear in the substrate.

● FINISHES

Uses of G-Flex® decoupling membrane

Guru’s G-FLEX sheet is a waterproofing and decoupling solution for terraces and decks with ceramic or natural stone finishes. Its anti-fracture waterproof structure helps to protect the coating against cracked substrates, substrate movement and residual moisture, improving the durability of the system in both new construction and exterior renovation.

Guru’s G-FLEX is an effective option for treating negative moisture problems from the inside, creating a waterproof barrier without the need for intervention on the exterior face of the wall or floor. In addition to waterproofing, its nodular design favors vapor dissipation and helps manage residual moisture, making it especially useful in basements, crawl spaces and areas in contact with the exterior ground.

Guru’s G-FLEX sheet is designed for underfloor heating installations, where it provides waterproofing, decoupling and better heat distribution. Thanks to its nodular structure, it facilitates faster and more uniform heat transmission, while helping to absorb stresses in the substrate and protect the ceramic tile from cracking and movement.

For garages with ceramic or natural stone flooring, the G-FLEX decoupling sheet provides a very interesting combination of waterproofing, decoupling and load distribution. Its system helps to transfer the loads from the coating to the substrate at multiple points, reducing stresses and improving the performance of the pavement on critical, damp substrates or those at risk of cracking. This application for garages is a reasonable inference from its technical properties of load distribution, decoupling and waterproofing.

● FAQS

What is the G-FLEX membrane?
G-FLEX is an uncoupling membrane designed to absorb stresses between the substrate and the ceramic covering. Its function is to help prevent cracks, breakage and tile detachment in floors and wall coverings, especially on surfaces subject to movement, thermal changes or shrinkage.
What is the G-FLEX membrane used for?
The G-FLEX membrane is used to uncouple the ceramic tile from the substrate, reducing the transmission of stresses that can cause cracks or breakage in the final covering. It is a highly effective solution to improve the durability of the ceramic system and increase installation safety.
How does G-FLEX help prevent large-format tiles from breaking?
Large-format tiles are more sensitive to substrate stresses, expansion and small structural movements. The G-FLEX membrane acts as an uncoupling layer, absorbing part of these stresses and reducing the risk of cracks, breakage or tile lifting.
Why do large-format tiles break?
Large-format tiles can break due to substrate movement, mortar shrinkage, thermal expansion, poor substrate preparation or stress concentration. When there is no uncoupling layer, these stresses are transmitted directly to the tile covering, increasing the risk of cracks or breakage.
Is G-FLEX recommended for large-format tiles?
Yes. G-FLEX is especially recommended for installations with large-format tiles, as it helps distribute stresses and protect the covering against substrate movement. This improves the performance of the system and reduces the risk of long-term issues.
Where can the G-FLEX membrane be installed?
G-FLEX can be installed on floors and walls, both in new construction and renovation projects, over substrates that require stress reduction before installing the ceramic covering. It is suitable for bathrooms, kitchens, living areas, commercial spaces and surfaces with large-format tiles.
Can G-FLEX be installed over underfloor heating?
Yes. G-FLEX is compatible with underfloor heating systems, as it helps manage the stresses caused by thermal variations between the substrate and the ceramic tile, improving the performance of the covering.
How is the G-FLEX membrane installed?
G-FLEX is installed using tile adhesive suitable for the substrate and the type of covering, applied to the surface with a notched trowel. The membrane is then placed and pressed to ensure proper adhesion. Once installed, the ceramic tile is laid over it following the system recommendations.
What advantages does G-FLEX offer compared to installing ceramic tiles directly over the substrate?
Installing ceramic tiles directly over the substrate can transmit all base stresses to the covering. G-FLEX adds an intermediate uncoupling layer that helps prevent cracks, absorbs small movements and improves installation safety, especially with large-format tiles.
Does G-FLEX help prevent cracks and tile detachment?
Yes. The main function of G-FLEX is to reduce the transmission of stresses from the substrate to the covering, helping to prevent cracks, fissures and possible detachment of ceramic tiles.

● TECHNICAL

Waterproof anti-fracture decoupling membrane for installation under ceramic or natural stone cladding, both indoors and outdoors. It serves to decouple the coating from the substrate, protect against leaks, reduce the risk of cracking due to substrate movement and help dissipate vapor and residual humidity. It is also suitable for floors with radiant heating and for critical substrates such as wood, anhydrite, mortar, existing pavement or exterior areas.

It consists of a multilayer structure composed of a 0.5 mm HDPE high-density polyethylene film, with 3 mm high nodules, and a non-woven geotextile fleece of polypropylene fibers at the base. The film provides waterproofing and the geotextile sheet favors total adherence to the substrate by means of adhesive cement. It does not contain hazardous substances.
